2021.09.16 22:49 GiveMeThePhd Advice on house buying
So my husband and I are looking to buy a house at some point and we are looking for some advice. We work in Beltsville and Laurel, and we want under an hour commute. What are good areas to buy in and also areas to avoid? We are not from here so any advice at all would be helpful. We are currently in Burtonsville which is an easy commute, but the homes are very expensive here. TIA!

2021.09.16 22:49 tharealbigjc22 You Know What Angers Me?: Line Sitting
Standing in line is something that no one should have to do. Standing in line for concert tickets? Depending on the group, well worth it. Standing in line for a movie or video game? If the reviews are good, I'll slam down some cash. But there are certain things that I'm glad we don’t have to stand in line for. Theme park rides, if you’re at Disney or Universal Studios and have a Fast Pass, you don’t have to wait very long to stand in line. New phone? Did you know you can pay someone to stand in line for you so you don’t have to wait in a long ass line? But the thing that angers me about lines are line cutters. Why do people feel it necessary to cut in line just as I was about to order my food? If it's a quick thing, then I have no issue with that. But if you’re in line and someone just whole ass orders another meal while you’ve been waiting in line, that when you'd wanna get a little stabby. Who does this? People want to get their food and eat and you’ve held up the line by cutting it. No one wants to wait in line any more than they have to. But sometimes in the end, your patience will be rewarded. Getting some extra bacon, getting a couple accessories for your Switch, getting a free coupon for a large popcorn. Look, we all hate line sitting and nobody wants to wait just to get things going. But if we just tough it out a little bit in the end, it will all be worth it.

2021.09.16 22:49 Geeneus_ About EVGA 3000 & 2000 Series Fan Issues
A lot of people have been talking about fan issues for their EVGA 3000 & 2000 series cards.
It is most often described as a grinding, vibrational, or croaking noise that is occurring while the fan is starting and stopping repeatedly while idle.
I see too many people saying that this is just because of a bad fan curve, and that it can be fixed by using a custom fan curve that keeps it from ever stopping. The problem goes much deeper, and the solution isn't that simple.
The fan should be continuously spinning at these fan curves, the reason it's not is because there is some friction or resistance that is completely stopping the fan before the next "spin pulse." The startup noise goes away if you change the curve, but this resistance problem most likely wont. This could likely lead to higher temperatures even if the noise is gone.
I was having this problem with my 3060TI XC Gaming. The fans were starting and stopping and making the weird noises every time they did. While it was running, I lightly squished my card like a sandwich and the problem completely stopped. The fans stopped making noises, and they were able to run continuously at the same temperature and fan curve. This suggests that this is some kind of structural issue, and NOT just some fan curve miscalibration.
Some other posts talking about this issue:

2021.09.16 22:49 Psychological-Peak-5 So...I have to ask...how much do you think we'll cry when wave 3 starts?
The next adult book is called Fallen Star. The assumption of most fans is that starlight beacon will likely fall to the Nihil (or the Drengir). Throughout the history of sw litterature we see beloved characters die in a maner that corresponds to their life, abilities, or characteristics. For example, a captain will die in his ship, a pilot will die in his starfighter (likely sacrificing himself), a jedi will become one with the light sacrificing himself etc. So...Avar is the marshal. Right? If the station falls, does that mean she'll fall with it? After the end of Rising storm, I think they are capable of anything. Will they actually kill Avar?
I've seen another theory that star refers to Stellan, because his name comes from the latin word for star. I dont even wanna think about this possibility since he is my favorite. I'll never psychologically recover😅
Anyway, I think it's good that everything is on the table. If we knew that our heroes survive all the time the stakes wouldnt be high. Still...give us a break Cavan😂

2021.09.16 22:49 Murmuringsum34 Can we all talk about how shitty and useless SAITSA is compared to UofC's student union?
Like instead of fighting for the students and bringing in services to benefit us. Ex. Fighting against the increase in tuition costs,, campus wide wileyplus, pearson, etc. subscriptions so profs cant force it on us. This is just a few things that SU at UofC has fought for or are currently fighting for. SAITSA is always quite unless its time for their relections and blow all the money on sex bingo.

2021.09.16 22:49 bear-knuckle PSA: New Orleans is the only market in Louisiana that offers 1-to-1 solar energy buyback
Here in New Orleans, when you generate electricity via a solar array, Entergy is obligated by law to credit you the same amount that they would have charged you. Seems fair, right? After all, your electricity is being used by someone else who would pay that same rate.
Of course, the power company has the added (enormous) expense of installing, maintaining and repairing the electric infrastructure that we enjoy, so there are some limits to protect their profitability. First of all, you have to pay about $10 every month, even if you don't use a single electron of Entergy's power, plus a bunch of rider fees tacked on as a percentage of your bill. Second, any power you generate is paid as a credit that rolls over; if your bill would've been $100, and you generate $150, the extra $50 worth of credit goes to your next bill. If you've built up a credit of $1,000 somehow, Entergy will still charge you that minimum charge, and won't actually PAY you unless you end your service altogether.
Entergy, like all other electric companies, charge customers by the kilowatt-hour (kWh). The price Entergy charges for power is 8¢ per kWh. If you generate a kWh of power, that's what they credit you. So if you use 1,000 kWh of electricity, and you generated 500 kWh, you'd pay $40 for the electricity, ~$10 for the customer charge, and maybe another $10-20 in riders/fees. $60-70 bucks, with a savings of $40. Want to know what Entergy credits you outside of New Orleans?
2¢. The second-lowest buyback rate in the state, barely beating out CLECO. And unless you buy a backup battery to store it in, you can't even use the electricity yourself to get the full value out of it - under the state's "buy all, sell all" policy, if you burned 1,000 kWh of electricity and every electron came from your roof, you would pay $80 (1,000 kWh at their rate of 8¢) and they would credit you $20 (1,000 at your rate of 2¢). On top of the minimum charge and other fees. That's roughly a $100 bill for the privilege of selling Entergy electricity, that they will then sell to your neighbor at full price.
Prior to 2019, Louisiana utilities were required by law to credit you the full amount ("net metering"). But in 2019, the Louisiana Public Service Commission voted to lift those requirements, instead implementing the policy described above ("two-channel billing"). New Orleans alone was left unaffected, since Entergy is regulated by the City Council rather than the LPSC.
Entergy itself is building a shit ton of utility-scale solar installations, because for a large company who can afford the up-front cost, it's cheap and therefore profitable. So if you're ever wondering why Entergy doesn't seem interested in promoting distributed generation despite the clear benefits of natural disaster resiliency, consider that they don't hate solar, or that solar isn't profitable. They just hate you having solar, because your solar isn't profitable.
